Authorities are searching for a man they say pretended to be a Secret Service agent on an MBTA Commuter Rail train.

A fellow passenger recorded the man arguing with an MBTA employee about having to pay his fare and uploaded the recording to YouTube.

“You don’t mess with Secret Service, I’ll tell you that right now,” the man said to the conductor. “I don’t care who you are. You’re just a conductor on a train, all right? Don’t interrupt my investigation. All right, tough guy? What do you work for, Al-Qaeda?”

Richard Sullivan, a lieutenant detective with the Transit Police special crimes unit, confirmed to Boston.com that the incident is under investigation, and that the man heard on the recording is not an actual Secret Service agent.

“We have had communication with the U.S. Secret Service Boston office relative to the video,” Sullivan told Boston.com. “I’m confident that the gentleman alleging to be a federal agent does not possess such status.”

The Secret Service added that it’s looking into the incident.

“We’re aware of the incident and we are investigating it,” Special Agent in Charge Stephen Marks told Boston.com. “Impersonating a federal agent or officer is a crime. … We’re taking the report seriously [and] looking to get to the bottom of it.”
