Two police officers responding to a fire in Coney Island were overcome by smoke and left in critical condition on Sunday.

Authorities said that residents on the 13th floor of an apartment building at 2007 Surf Ave. called in a fire at around 12:30 p.m.

Officers Rosa Rodriguez, 36, and Dennis Guerra, 38, were already in the area responded to the blaze. The two took an elevator up the 18-story building, owned by the city’s Housing Authority when they were overcome with smoke.

Despite earlier reports said that the elevator got stuck between the floors that filled with smoke, Police Commissioner Bill Bratton told reporters that the two officers were found in the hallway and taken back down the elevator for treatment outside.

Both cops were taken to local hospitals and treated for carbon monoxide poisoning and smoke inhalation.

Rodriguez was taken to Lutheran Medical Center in critical condition, where she was stabilized and soon transferred to the New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center.

Bratton said that emergency workers resuscitated Guerra in front of the burning building and was taken to Coney Island Hospital. He was then airlifted to Jacobi Medical Center.

Officials said that three firefighters and nine civilians were treated for minor injuries. A tenth civilian was treated at Coney Island Hospital.

This story was updated at 6 p.m. with new information.
