Occupy Wall Street: MTV recruits protesters for ‘The Real World’

6,000 protesters marched to Times Square on Oct. 15.

It seems like everyone’s trying to profit in some way through the Occupy Wall Street movement.

Whether it’s personal gain, like the man who proposed to his girlfriend at Zuccotti Park, or financial gain, like MTV’s attempt to milk the situation (or maybe they were simply inspired by the Occupy Wall Street march to Times Square, which is where their headquarters are located).

On Monday evening an ad was posted on Craiglist with the headline: “Part of Occupy Wall Street? Real World 27 Wants You! (Battery Park)

The full ad reads:

“MTV’s Real World is seeking cast members to tell their unique stories on our show. If you are over the age of 20 and appear to be between the ages of 20-24, and the description below sounds like you, we want to hear from you!

Are you a part of the OCCUPY WALL STREET movement?

If so, please contact realworldcasting@bunim-murray.com. You subject heading should be YOUR NAME and WALL STREET.

Please attach 3 RECENT PHOTOS and a brief BIO, including your full NAME, DATE OF BIRTH (for ID purposes only) as well as your CONTACT INFORMATION including PHONE #.”

A MTV source told Metro that the producers are targeting young, passionate people to be a part of the next cycle but that MTV wouldn’t comment further.

It’s too bad, we really wanted to ask what’s up with the random capitalization of certain words in the ad.

This comes soon after the LA Times reported that director Christopher Nolan may film parts of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ among the protesters.

According to a source briefed on the actors’ schedules, “case members have been told the shoot could include scenes shot at the Occupy Wall Street protests.”

Has the movement grown so much it now lost its meaning? With celebrity visits and potential movie and reality show filming, is the protest still representing the 99%? Thoughts?
