Christopher Neimann live-sketched the New York City Marathon while running it

Neimann sketched and tweeted the whole marathon. What did you do today?

Did you wake up this morning, grab a warm cup of coffee and watch runners take on the NYC Marathon? Were you just as amazed as we were at how effortless some of the runners made it seem? The whole event was so inspiring you probably thought to yourself “I’m going to pick up running again starting tomorrow.” That’s great, we’re happy for you, but it’s no where near as cool as what one runner accomplished.

Christopher Neimann, who draws the column for The New York Times Magazine, not only ran the marathon, (which is an accomplishment on its own considering we can’t walk up five flights of stairs without stopping to catch our breath) he live-sketched it. Yup, live-sketch.

As if that wasn’t enough, he also tweeted his sketches. Check them out on Twitter @abstractsunday and @abstractsunday1.

Armed with a marker, and toward the end of his run paint, he sketched himself and the surrounding events. Often depicting himself as a running battery, Neimann sketched his energy levels by showing how ‘full’ the battery is.

We’re in shock. Let alone the physical demands of running a marathon, we’re in awe of his coordination. According to Gawker Neimann practiced for months to get used to running and sketching at the same time.

At mile 23.8, Neimann tweeted that he was hallucinating.
