Storify: Twitter reaction Obama’s measures against gun violence

President Barack Obama wipes away a tear while making a statement about the shooting in Connecticut.

Following President Barack Obama’s new assault weapons ban and mandatory background checks for all gun buyers on Wednesday, the public was swift to react on Twitter.

Reaction varied from people who supported President Obama’s measures and believe gun control is the best way to prevent another Newtown style massacre. Others were outraged that the President would interfere with the right to own guns.

The proposal comes after the country was outraged over the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre. This is the biggest U.S. gun-control push in generations.
