Alligator rides Chicago subway, ends up at the airport

An alligator took a long strange trip to O’Hare Airport in Chicago when its owner took the 2-foot-long scaly creature on the Blue Line and then left it at Terminal 3 in the airport. The gator was found hiding under an escalator, reports the Chicago Tribune.

Chicago Transit Authority officials looked at footage from inside the train and said the woman calmly held the alligator in her lap and showed it to passengers. Officials were able to retrace the reptile’s footsteps back to the “L” train thanks to photos on social media. They were then able to determine that the woman boarded a northbound Blue Line train at the Pulaski station at 1:17 a.m. on Nov. 1., and got off the train with the alligator at the O’Hare Blue Line terminal one hour later. They found another image of the woman, sans gator, at 2:44 a.m. at the O’Hare station.

Ditching an alligator at the airport is no joke: The woman responsible may face a misdemeanor charge of cruel treatment of an animal or a fine of between $300 and $1,000 for cruelty to animals for abandoning the animal in a public place.
