Letter: A reaction worth a thousand tsks
Re: ‘A picture’s only worth a thousand English words’ (Metro, Sept. 4)
Surprise, surprise. One Spanish-written page threatens the entire hierarchy of white monolingual America.
God forbid we read a language spoken by approximately 37 million people in the U.S. Metro is a free newspaper distributed throughout the city.
It should be inclusive of the community it serves. It’s a huge shame that seeing one page of the Metro newspaper in Spanish caused such an uproar. The idea that someone can take ownership of a public newspaper, dictate what language it should be in and which language is “worth more.”
Seeing one page of the daily newspaper should not threaten your way of life. It IS everyday life in this city.
