Letter: Tea party agenda has antebellum echoes
The truth is that the extreme faction of the Tea Party should use the name “Confederates” instead.
They use the ACA as a cause celebre in their effort to limit federal government and champion states rights, especially states that offer little support to the poor and fight unions. Like plantation owners who had slaves and didn’t want to compromise, they oppose higher taxes on the wealthy even after Reaganomics has proven only to fuel bubbles, not trickle down.
The insufficient revenue makes the debt rise. If the stalemate continues into late October, past other major deadlines, we will be in for more economic trouble.
