Letter: A special, oily relationship
John Kerry and his meeting with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud el-Faisal was laughable, in a depressing kind of way. The U.S.-Saudi alliance is enduring for oil, and oil alone. Both Kerry’s and el-Faisal’s comments about wanting peaceful negotiations on the Syrian conflict come only after Saudi Arabia’s funding of radical rebels has largely been unsuccessful there (and the fact that no one wants these rebels to take over power). This is thanks to the international community, which has applied pressure to come to a peaceful solution.
