Letters: Cool down, global warmers
Re: ‘Turn up the heat, Foreman’ (Metro, Feb. 18)
Letter writer Phil Lindsay’s facts need a little fact checking of their own. Last year was not warmer than any other year globally. There is a reason it is 61 degrees in Sochi during the Winter Olympics: It is always around that temperature this time of year there. The average high temperature for February in Sochi is 57 degrees. As to the drought the West Coast is experiencing, well, it is the norm for that area. The past 100 years has been the wettest that area has seen in thousands of years. The real fact of the matter is that global surface temperatures have not risen in 17 years!

Letter writer Phil Lindsay shouldn’t just assume everything proves global warming. Droughts in California are nothing new, though short-sighted planning by government and environmentalists have left the region even more vulnerable to dry weather (as they are more concerned with bait fish than human lives). Sochi is not a cold area; these temperatures they’re seeing are normal — it is short-sighted officials who chose a non-winter location for the Winter Olympics (politics at play again).
