Three months after a four-year-old was killed by a speeding car after he darted out into the street from between parked cars, police have charged the woman they say is the driver.
Shanika Mason, 27, of Sharon Hill, Pa., turned herself into police Wednesday and was arrested and charged with homicide by vehicle, accident involving death and involuntary manslaughter, police said.
Abdul Wilson, 4, was outside playing on the 1600 block of S. 57th Street around 6:30 p.m. on April 13 when he ran into the street and was struck by a black Ford Edge.
"The impact knocked the Abdul to the ground, and as the striking vehicle started to flee the scene it struck him a second time causing fatal injuries," a police report stated.
The vehicle was recovered in a Center City parking garage a day later.
