Pro-marijuana events planned for ‘pot holiday’

Today is April 20, the stoner holiday of marijuana enthusiasts when weedheads encourage each other to not just light up, but to smoke as much herb as humanly possible, preferably in public.

In Philadelphia, where marijuana below 30 grams was officially decriminalized in October and public use is now only punishable by a ticket, pot-smokers will gather to celebrate their holiday around the city.

The East Coast Cannabis Coalition is holding a celebration at Penn Treaty Park beginning at 3 p.m.

Other pot activists, some of whom support marijuana legalization primarily for medical usage, will be demonstrating at Independence Mall at 4:20 p.m.

Last year at Independence Mall on 4/20, no one actually smoked marijuana due to a heavy police presence.
