Kymere Corbin, 22, has been charged with aggravated assault for the non-fatal shooting of his father while they were driving on the I-76 in West Conshohocken Tuesday evening.

Corbin, of West Passyunk, shot his father, Elbert Corbin, 41, in the back of the head around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday with a 9mm semi-automatic pistol, reports say, as they were driving a 2010 Buick Lacrosse westbound on the Schuylkill Expressway.

The shooting reportedly followed a "family argument." According to NBC, Corbin’s parents were driving him to rehab for drug and mental health treatment at the time of the shooting. He found the gun in the car and shouted “Look what he gave me!” NBC said, before he and his father began struggling over the gun, at which point the gun fired.

The incident occurred during heavy rush hour traffic and backed up cars on both sides of the highway for several hours as police investigated the shooting scene that left Corbin's father, in critical but stable condition.

Corbin's mother, Tanya Bates, was in the front passenger seat of the car and was not hurt.

Corbin was charged with gun charges as well as aggravated assault. He is being held in Montgomery County Prison on a $500,000 cash bail.

According to his Facebook profile, Corbin studied at Edward Bok Technical High School and Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis in Florida, and was employed at Green Solution.

He will return to court for a hearing April 20.
