Eagles add front office exectuive to assist Roseman

Maybe Jeff Lurie and the Eagles aren’t as high on Howie Roseman as previously thought.

The team announced Wednesday that it had hired Tom Gamble as vice-president of player personnel. Gamble, whom the Eagles pursued last season, will serve under Roseman and head the college and pro scouting departments. Basically, he’s Roseman’s right-hand man in the front office.

“He’s got extensive experience both in college and the pro side,” Roseman said in a conference call. “He’s been on the road, developing relationships with people at college campuses across the country. He’s also been in the office. He’s been part of successful winning organizations.”

Gamble spent the last eight seasons in San Francisco, including the past two years as director of player personnel. He oversaw 18 combined Pro Bowl selections, while the 49ers reached the Super Bowl in 2012.

“I would like to thank Tom for his hard work, dedication and loyalty over the past eight seasons,” said 49ers GM Trent Baalke. “He has played an instrumental role within our personnel department, and is a true professional in every sense of the word.”

Gamble’s hiring is a homecoming of sorts, as he spent four years with the Eagles as an assistant in the player personnel department. His father, Harry Gamble, served as Eagles president under Buddy Ryan.

Gamble’s vast experience at evaluating talent, something Roseman lacks, indicates that he was brought here to be more than just a pretty face. He will have input.

“I’m excited to get him next door and be connected to his office, and go from there,” Roseman said.
