The Pittsburgh Penguins tied the game on a 5-on-3 power play late in regulation before defeating the Philadelphia Flyers on Tyler Kennedy’s overtime goal Sunday night.

The Flyers took a 1-0 lead on Claude Giroux’s power play goal on a shot from the slot at the 14:09 mark of the second period. It was the 10th goal of the year for the Flyers’ first-year captain.

Penguins center Sidney Crosby tied the game with a power play goal of his own at 13:46 of the third period.

The Penguins were on a 5-on-3 power play when Crosby scored the game-tying goal. Wayne Simmonds was called for slashing at 12:52. Kimmo Timonen went off on a hooking call just 23 seconds later.

Crosby’s 14th goal of the season set up Kennedy’s overtime heroics. The center ripped a wrist shot past Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov 2:33 into the extra period, extending Pittsburgh’s winning streak to 12 games.

Bryzgalov was strong in goal for the Flyers (13-16-2) in the defeat, stopping 33 of 35 shots he faced.
