The Phillies lost two games in Cincinnati on Wednesday night in one of the more unusual doubleheaders you’ll see.

The first game took all of nine minutes to complete. The Reds scored on a bases-loaded single by Jay Bruce to win the completion of a game that started Tuesday night but was suspended due to rain in the middle of the ninth inning.

The Reds then blasted Phillies starter John Lannan early and often in the second game, which Cincinnati won by a score of 11-2. Lannan surrendered six runs on eight hits over just 1  2/3 innings.

Mike Leake picked up the win for Cincinnati (8-7). He pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing just three hits, and went 3 for 4 at the plate with an RBI and three runs scored.

The Reds swept the three-game series, outscoring the slumping Phillies by a combined 16-4 score.

The Phillies (6-9) finished their six-game road trip with a 2-4 record. They return home for a four-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals beginning Thursday.

Lannan and outfielder Domonic Brown will be examined Thursday after being injured in Wednesday’s game. Brown hurt his back making a catch in Wednesday’s game, while Lannan is dealing with a sore knee.
