Lee dominates, Phillies top Marlins

Cliff Lee had nearly as many hits as he allowed to the Miami Marlins.

The Marlins won the head-to-head hits battle against Lee, 3-2, but barely topping the opposing team’s pitcher in hits isn’t going to win many games at the big-league level. That held true Wednesday night in Miami.

The Phillies pulled to within one game of the .500 mark with their series-ending 3-0 win over the lowly Marlins (13-34).

Lee picked up the complete game shutout. He struck out five and walked just two Miami batters in improving his record to 5-2 on the season. He also saw his batting average jump to .316 with his two-hit performance at the plate.

It wasn’t just Lee getting hits, though, as the Phillies pounded out 12 hits against Marlins starting pitcher Kevin Slowey and a cast of relievers.

Delmon Young continues to swing a hot bat for the Phils. He hit a home run for the second straight game to get the Phillies’ offense going.

Domonic Brown added a two-out RBI triple in the sixth inning and Freddy Galvis drove home Brown to round out the Phillies’ scoring.

Chase Utley missed his second consecutive game with sore ribs. He is scheduled for an MRI.

The Phillies (23-24) now head to Washington for a three-game set with their division rivals. The series begins Friday  night.
