Playing the Field: Is Tim Tebow’s NFL career over?

Ever wondered what is the opposite of John Elway’s back-to-back Super Bowl ride into the sunset? It appears Tim Tebow might be giving it to us.

ESPN the Magazine just published its “Taboo Issue” for June and included Tebow as a player too taboo to sign. Of course, the magazine only included this because they are contractually obligated to stoke the Tebow fires every few weeks — actual news be damned.

The funny thing is they actually take some of the blame by talking about the media frenzy created by networks … like ESPN. The irony of this coming in a manufactured story is probably still lost on Skip Bayless.

ESPN the Magazine included the completely unsourced information that “people close to the quarterback” believe he may be done with the NFL. It is a legitimate question even if the veracity is little to none. We are now past free agency, the NFL Draft and the beginning of organized team activities and nary a peep has been heard about the signing of Tebow.

The Jets, who cut Tebow a couple months ago, brought in a quarterback in David Garrard who hadn’t played in two seasons. And who then promptly retired last week, unable to even practice on his balky knees.

The Jets proved last season you can’t go in halfway on Tebow. He brings such a cult of fascination with him that he has to be your starter or the rumors are going to eat your team alive. And right now there are very few teams which need a QB with questionable skills.

You’ll be a good politician, Tim, go do that. Then you’re Fox News’ problem.
