The last time the Yankees played at Fenway Park was Sept. 13, 2012 and the playoff-bound New Yorkers blanked the Sox, 2-0. Boston fielded the likes of Scott Podsednik, James Loney, Ivan De Jesus and Mauro Gomez that day.

Things have greatly changed for the better for the Red Sox while things have slowly spiraled downward for the Yanks. Boston has a league-best 58 wins heading into this weekend’s series at Fenway while the Yankees are 6.0 games back in the division race and are looking up at both Tampa Bay and Baltimore in the standings.

New York is 9-5 in the month of July. Longtime captain Derek Jeter came back to the team from injury on July 11 but suffered a slight quad strain in his first game back.

Felix Doubront (6-3, 3.91 ERA) will get the ball for the Red Sox Friday (7 p.m., NESN) and will face Andy Pettitte (7-6, 4.39 ERA). John Lackey (7-6, 2.78 ERA) takes the hill for Boston Saturday (4 p.m., FOX), going up against Hiroki Kuroda (8-6, 2.65 ERA). In the series finale Sunday night (8, ESPN), Jon Lester (8-6, 4.58 ERA) looks to get back on track against CC Sabathia (9-8, 4.07 ERA).
