Ask Rajon Rondo and the Atlanta Braves, Waffle House is taking over the world

One of the many benefits in being a pro athlete is being able to eat at places like Waffle House and (usually) not having it interfere with your figure. Eating at one of these crack-of-dawn palaces of the South usually leads to, in the words of Bruno Gehard, committing carb-uicide if you have a bowl of cheese grits and a couple of pecan waffles.

But a pro athlete’s main job is to stay in shape. He has the other 23.5 hours in his day to work off waffles. That’s why it wasn’t all too shocking to see Rajon Rondo stop at a Waffle House this week. Sure, it was a little odd that it was a Franklin, Ind. Waffle House, but Rondo is well versed in hick towns having grown up in Kentucky and having played high school ball in Virginia. And he has professed his love for the greasy breakfast joint in the past, having tweeted at 5 a.m. on Aug. 19, 2012 – “Damn!!! I just had the best MUTHA… Phuckin… Sandwich… Ever! At #@WaffleHouse.”

The timing of this Waffle House news is intriguing. Just last week, news broke that Atlanta Braves fans credit the new in-stadium Waffle House at Turner Field to its recent winning streak. The Braves have gone 15-2 since it debuted back on July 26.

Makes you think Waffle House is ready to take over the world … or at least cross the Mason-Dixon line.
