Red Sox manage just two hits in frustrating loss to Dodgers

Runs have been hard to come by for the Red Sox offense when John Lackey has pitched this year. Unfortunately for the Red Sox the trend continued Friday night in Los Angeles as the Dodgers defeated the Red Sox 2-0 in a game which saw the Sox finish with just two hits.

It was a very well pitched game with Lackey going eight innings allowing the two runs on just three hits. The one mistake was a two-run home run to Hanley Ramirez coming in the fourth inning. For the Dodgers, Ricky Nolasco went eight innings and allowed the two hits while striking out six, before Kenley Jensen entered to pick up his 22nd save of the season in the ninth. Stephen Drew and Dustin Pedroia were the only two Sox players to record a hit.

The Red Sox will look to bounce back Saturday afternoon (4:15, FOX) as Jon Lester will get the ball for the Red Sox and go up against Hyun-Jin Ryu.

What they’ll be saying: Once again the Red Sox spoiled a good start from Lackey as he took his 11th loss of the season despite allowing three hits over eight innings. He’s now allowed two runs or less in 15 of his 23 starts this season. Going into the start, Lackey ranked No. 76 among 88 qualifiers in run support per start, getting 3.39 runs of support this season … With the loss the Sox fall to 10-11 in the month of August and back into a tie for the AL East lead with the Rays. Luckily for the team the schedule gets a lot easier as once they return home after Sunday, they will play 18 of their next 25 games at home as they will be going head-to-head with the Rays for the division crown.
