Red Sox take third straight over Yankees with 13-9 win

The Red Sox are proving to be very rude visitors in Yankee Stadium.

Boston once again powered its way to a 13-9 win over the Yankees on Saturday, smashing another four home runs along the way. That makes it 17 home runs over the last four games for the Red Sox.

Mike Napoli led things off for the Sox with a two-run home run in the second inning, and they never looked back, scoring 12 of their 13 runs between the 2nd and 5th innings.

Jonny Gomes added a three-run shot of his own in the third inning, and Xander Bogaerts hit his first career home run – a 443-foot blast to left-center field – in the fifth inning. Napoli, fittingly, would close out the scoring in the 9th with a solo shot.

John Lackey finally got the run support he’d been missing, and that’s a good thing, because he would end up needing it. Up 12-3 in the 6th inning, Lackey hit a wall, allowing the Yanks to score four runs in the inning. He finished with a line of 5.2 IP, 8 H, 7 ER, 6 K, 3BB.

Jacoby Ellsbury missed his second straight game and was sent back to Boston to have his foot examined. He will travel to Denver for a second opinion, as a broken bone in his foot is feared.

What they’ll be saying: It appears that the Red Sox have really put a damper on the Yankees’ playoff chances this series. New York hasn’t gotten a single thing out of their pitching staff through three games, and everybody knows that when it comes to the postseason, pitching matters. The Red Sox, on the other hand, haven’t been stellar on the mound either, but it appears to be more the exception than the rule. Plus, with an offense clicking on all cylinders like the Sox is, who needs pitching? Kidding. But the news of Ellsbury’s potentially serious injury looms. If they lose him for a while, that’s a big hole to fill.
