Torii Hunter rips Fenway cop Steve Horgan: ‘Help me, then cheer, fool!’

Detroit Tigers outfielder Torii Hunter was inches away from making one of the more memorable catches in MLB postseason history Sunday night at Fenway Park, but instead flipped over the short Fenway wall and found himself in the Boston bullpen.

A Boston police officer, working the Fenway ‘pen, couldn’t help himself and raised his hands in the air with excitement following David Ortiz’s eighth inning grand slam. The cop was later identified as Steve Horgan and his celebration went viral on Monday.

Hunter won’t be posing for pictures with Horgan anytime soon as he said, “in jest,” Monday that he wasn’t a fan of Horgan’s celebration.

“He’s supposed to be protect and serve,” Hunter told MLB.com’s Anthony Castrovince. “This son of a gun’s got his hands up! Help me, then cheer, fool! … I wish I would have kicked him in his face.”

Hunter also told Castrovince that he was thankful for the Red Sox players that showed empathy.

“They tried to take care of human life. Unlike the cop,” Hunter said.
