NFL Power Rankings, Week 7 edition

Russell Wilson, Seahawks, power rankings
Seahawks QB Russell Wilson has been hot and cole this season, but he’s finding his stride.

Seahawks take back top spot, Chiefs close behind

1. Seahawks (6-1): Seattle rightfully reclaims the top spot after taking care of business on the road in what many deemed a trap game. An even better sign, Russell Wilson (41-of-60 for 492 yards and three touchdowns, no interceptions) is starting to heat up. And, yes, we are aware our No. 3 team beat our No. 1 team, but it was a very close loss on the road.

2. Chiefs (7-0): Expecting emails from Kansas City fans this week saying, “Wait a minute, we’re undefeated …” Yes, you are. Truth is, they still lack a statement win.

3. Colts (5-2): Speaking of statement wins, none bigger than Indy over Denver last week. Bye bye Peyton’s Place, welcome to The Land of Luck. Whatever idiot coined the phrase, “he’s got it,” was talking about the Colts’ unflappable quarterback.

4. Broncos (6-1): Manning’s Minions fall two whole spots because they weren’t in tip-top shape against Jacksonville, either. They also seemed to lose all composure when they got down early.

5. Saints (5-1): We won’t drop a team on a bye. We are interested to see how they respond after that heartbreaker two weeks ago at Foxboro.

6. 49ers (5-2): Jim Harbaugh’s bunch is back on the fast track — and getting healthier and healthier (read: more dangerous and more dangerous each and every day). There are also reports that injured receiver Michael Crabtree is on pace for a Week 11 return.

7. Bengals (5-2): Andy Dalton must have taken his rubber wedding ring off and started playing football. Best game to date.

8. Patriots (5-2): Debate the controversial penalty call all you want. New England should not be in an overtime game with the Jets in the first place. Good news, Gronk is back.

9. Packers (4-2): The Pack is losing pass-catchers like Bill Cosby goes through pudding pops. The latest victim, Jermichael Finley. But Aaron Ridgers don’t care. He’ll throw it to the “Discount Daaaable Check” guys if he has to.

10. Lions (4-3): They might have the two deadliest weapons on either side of the ball, in WR Calvin Johnson and DT Ndamukong Suh.

11. Ravens (3-4): Ray Rice needs to get going — and fast. Then again, John Harbaugh’s team always seem to get hot down the stretch.

12. Chargers (4-3): You can’t criticize the Bolts for doing what they were supposed to do. They beat a very bad Jaguars team by double digits. Enough said.

13. Cowboys (4-3): ‘Boys slip a spot despite taking over sole possession of first in inept NFC East. Yes, they won. No, they didn’t look like a playoff team.

14. Bears (4-3): Chicago is in trouble without Jay Cutler for four weeks. Is there an echo? Feels like we say this every year around this time. Oh wait, we do.

15. Titans (3-4): Jake Locker is back and maybe they’ll use the recent deaths of two franchise icons as some sort of rallying cry.

16. Panthers (3-3): Carolina is the biggest Jekyll-Hyde team in the league. Now they’re at .500 for first time since 2009. They haven’t been over .500 since 2008.

17. Eagles (3-4): What happened to the ‘Star Wars’ offense? Birds looked scared and out-of-sync — and word that Matt Barkley may be pressed into action this week isn’t good, even against the punchless New York Giants.

18. Jets (4-3): We can’t explain how this team has a winning record. Obviously, Rex Ryan is pushing the right buttons. Is it time to take the Jets seriously?

19. Dolphins (3-3): The trade for Bryant McKinnie reeks of desperation, and it should. The offensive line can’t keep Ryan Tannehill upright.

20. Cardinals (3-4): Give the Cards credit for hanging with NFC West heavyweights, the 49ers and the Seahawks, for at least a few quarters.

21. Rams (3-4): They would be one higher, but looking into the crystal ball … it’s going to be a long way to a fourth win without starting QB Sam Bradford.

22. Redskins (2-4): Robert Griffin III has shown flashes of his former self. If they can ride this momentum, who knows, remember what division they reside in.

23. Raiders (2-4): Head coach Dennis Allen confirmed what everyone thought during the bye week: The Raiders will “build” and “grow” with Terrelle Pryor.

24. Browns (3-3): Still in the thick of the playoff hunt, rumor is Cleveland is shopping speedy wideout Josh Gordon. You don’t say?

25. Falcons (2-4): Look on the bright side, Harry Douglas is a fantasy beast and the team got off the proverbial schneid. Enjoy this one, guys!

Best of the worst: 26. Bills (3-4); 27. Steelers (2-4); 28. Texans (2-5); 29. Giants (1-6); 30. Vikings (1-5); 31. Buccaneers (0-6); Jaguars (0-7).
