Boston College basketball coaching search begins after Donahue firing

The Boston College Eagles are seeking a new head men’s basketball coach after Steve Donahue was relieved of his duties Tuesday.

Donahue went 21-13 in 2010-11, 9-22 in 2011-12, 16-17 in 2012-13 and 8-24 in 2013-14.

The most logical choice for Donahue’s replacement is current Harvard head coach Tommy Amaker, who has led the Crimson to three consecutive NCAA tournament berths. Amaker is quite familiar with the ACC having played and coached under Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski.

Boston College graduate and former Tennessee head coach Bruce Pearl would likely have been another name in the running but he took the head basketball job at Auburn Tuesday.

Donahue’s predecessor, Al Skinner, spent the 2013-14 season as an assistant coach at Bryant University. It is unknown as to whether or not the 61-year-old Skinner would want to jump back into the head coaching game. Skinner is BC’s all-time winningest coach, having compiled a record of 247-165 at The Heights. He led the Eagles to seven NCAA tournaments.
