Playing the Field: Mets pitcher Matt Harvey dating Anne V

Sometimes it pays to be a phenom.

Wait, what am I saying? It always pays to be a phenom — the fame, the free meals, the endorsements and, of course, the women.

Mets ace pitcher Matt Harvey is currently enjoying the latter (presumably he’s enjoying a few free spumoni in Queens as well). Harvey grabbed attention at Game 4 of the Rangers-Bruins Eastern Conference semifinals for the date he chose to bring: Anne Sergeyevna Vyalitsyna.

She’s better known as Anne V and she’s one of the biggest supermodels in the world. (She’s not, contrary to what MLB insider Jon Heyman believed, actual royalty.) The St. Petersburg, Russia-native has appeared in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue every year from 2005-13. In addition to being a nine-time SI Swimsuit model, she’s been in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show three times. In other words, she’s really, really pretty.

Harvey, 24, and Vyalitsyna, 27, met at a Rangers game May 6 and he apparently made quite an impression on her after just a brief elevator ride. He tweeted his congratulations to the Rangers after the win and happened to compliment Anne in the process.

He sent the tweet at 11:30 p.m. and she responded with an answer just an hour later.

By the way, he went nine shutout innings, allowing just one hit and striking out 12 batters on May 7. Now that is how you leave an impression on a girl you just met.

It appears as though the two must’ve met in the interim and started dating, because they were quite heavy on the PDA at Game 4 in front of the cameras. Then again, he’s dating a supermodel, so we already know he has more game than most.

Harvey also happens to have been born in the same town as yours truly (scenic New London, Conn.) and pitched for the high school rival of yours truly (sorry Matt, Ledyard > Fitch).

But I say congrats to Harvey. He’s 5-0 on the season with a 1.93 ERA and 74 strikeouts in 70 innings. He could very well be starting the All-Star Game in his home park in a couple months. Why not soak up the best time of his life with a Russian supermodel on his arm?
