Red Sox taking note of Bruins run at Stanley Cup

With the Bruins in the midst of their Stanley Cup run, the Red Sox are just getting into the heart of their season, leading the American League East. But despite being wrapped up in their own season the Red Sox have not ignored what the Bruins are doing.

Last week before the Red Sox boarded their charter to Tampa for their series against the Rays, every player was given a Bruins hat, which they all wore on the trip down and even individually posed in a video before boarding the bus to show their Bruins pride. Manager John Farrell called Bruins coach Claude Julien last Wednesday in advance of Game 1 of the Stanley Cup to wish the Bruins luck. Farrell said it was the first time the two had spoken.

There are not many true hockey fans on the Red Sox roster, but the games have been on in the clubhouse following each and every game and the players have paid attention rooting on the Black and Gold.David Ortiz has been wearing a Bruins hat for the past few weeks and even took his two kids to the series clinching win over the Penguins, drawing a huge cheer from the Garden crowd when shown on the jumbotron.

The Bruins support at Fenway goes beyond the Red Sox players. On game nights where both the Red Sox and Bruins have been in action, instead of the stands being full of red and blue for the Red Sox, there has been a ton of black and gold mixed in as the fans have shown their Bruins support even at Fenway.
There has also been a spot on the Green Monster scoreboard to update the score and period of the Bruins games, which has drawn bigger cheers than for the action on the field some nights when a Bruins goal is put up. As the rounds have gone on there have also been highlights of the game shown on the center field video board, also to the enjoyment of fans.

Boston truly is a unique place when it comes to sports. No other city in the country has enjoyed the same success as Boston sports teams have had in the last decade or so and what makes it that much more special is the way the other teams in town have rallied around each other.

Boston truly is a city of champions.
