Second half of MLB season could be marred by steroids scandal

The second half of the MLB season is upon us and it could bring with it more steroid scandal.

FOX Sports reporter Ken Rosenthal told WEEI radio’s Dennis & Callahan yesterday that the baseball world could soon be rocked as the investigation in the Biogenesis PED issue continues.

“There will be bombshells,” Rosenthal said. “The question is timing. Baseball cannot rush into this. They have to have everything in order. And whether that takes two more days or two more weeks, or two more months for that matter, which I doubt, remains to be seen.”

While suspensions linked to the Biogenesis scandal could be dished out by October, the MLBPA said yesterday that its players won’t likely serve bans this season.

“In theory, [the players] could be suspended for five games or 500 games and we could then choose to challenge that,” MLBPA executive director Michael Weiner told ESPN. “The commissioner’s office is not bound by the scale we have in the basic agreement.”

Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez and Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun are two of the high-profile players among 20 that are expected to be suspended in connection to the investigation.
