Red Sox take home regular season finale over Blue Jays

Highlighted by a four-run second inning and a strong start from left-hander Felix Doubront, the Red Sox defeated the Blue Jays 5-2 in the regular season home finale at Fenway Park. The Red Sox took two-of-three from the Blue Jays over the weekend.

In what could be the last start for Doubront of the season, he went seven innings allowing two runs on four hits. He allowed a run in the second inning and then another in the fifth, a solo home run from Kevin Pillar. Franklin Morales pitched a scoreless eighth, before Koji Uehara pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his 21st save of the season.

The four-run second inning was highlighted by a three-run home run from Jackie Bradley Jr., which scored Ryan Lavarnway and Stephen Drew. The Sox added their fifth run in the sixth on a solo home run off the bat of David Ortiz. Ortiz had two of the six Red Sox hits on the afternoon.

The team will have Monday off before a two-game series in Colorado against the Rockies, before closing out the regular season in Baltimore next weekend.

What they’ll be saying: The Red Sox finished 53-28 at home this season and has secured the best home record in the AL this season. Last year the Sox went an AL-worst 34-47 at home … If there were to be any injury concerns with Shane Victorino or Jacoby Ellsbury, Bradley Jr. is proving he could take over if need be as he’s swinging a hot bat of late. He is 5-for-10 with a double, homer, and 3 RBI in his last 3 games … The next time the Sox are at home will be Oct. 4 when they host Game 1 of the ALDS.
