Mets fans were not going to be happy if Curtis Granderson was their only addition this offseason. We’ll have to wait and see how they feel about a 40-year-old pitcher with a steroid past.

CBS Sports reported Wednesday night the team agreed to terms with former Oakland pitcher Bartolo Colon for two years and $20 million.

Colon has also spent time with the Indians, Expos, White Sox, Angels, Red Sox and crosstown-rival Yankees in his 16-year career.

The Mets are down a key starter in their rotation for the entire 2014 season with Matt Harvey undergoing Tommy John surgery this offseason. The rotation consists of Jon Niese, Zack Wheeler and Dillon Gee for certain.

Colon established himself as a star with the Indians at the beginning of his career and broke out further with Anaheim from 2004 to 2007. He won the Cy Young Award in 2005 with a 21-8 season with a 3.48 ERA and 157 strikeouts in 222 2/3 innings.

But years of high-innings totals resulted in serious shoulder injuries for Colon.

An experimental stem cell surgery, not legal in the United States but not against the rules of MLB, he underwent in his native Dominican Republic resurrected his career in 2011 with the Yankees. He did not play at all in 2010 and made just 37 total starts the four years prior.

But he was 8-10 with a 4.00 ERA in 164 1/3 innings with the Yankees, leading to consecutive one-year deals from Oakland. He performed at a very high level for the Athletics, going a combined 28-15 with a 2.99 ERA and finishing sixth in AL Cy Young voting last season.

Those numbers come despite missing 50 games due to a ban for performance-enhancing drugs. It was announced Aug. 22, 2012, Colon had failed a test for elevated levels of testosterone. It later came out that Colon was involved with Biogenesis, the Miami-area clinic which also resulted in the suspensions of Ryan Braun, Alex Rodriguez and others. Rodriguez continues to fight that suspension.

Colon did not receive a second suspension.
