Phillies fans love him. The Phillies players love him. And the Phillies front office does too. Charlie Manuel, just five months after being let go as Phillies manager, will return to the organization as a senior advisor to the general manager according to reports.

Manuel had a similar position back in 2003, prior to becoming the de facto Manager in 2005.

There was much speculation during the past few weeks and months that Manuel would return in some capacity, after general manager Reuben Amaro Jr. mentioned he was open to Manuel returning to the team.

Known for being a hitting huru, Manuel’s expertise could help the offensively challenged Phillies as they look to return to the top of the NL East.

Manuel is arguably the most successful and most popular manager the Phillies have ever had. In nine seasons at the helm, Manuel went 780-636 with a World Series title in 2008, and NL Pennant in 2009.

Manuel was relieved of duties as the Phillies skipper midway through the 2013 season, replaced by Ryne Sandberg.
