Kobe Bryant signs mega deal even while seriously hurt

Kobe Bryant has yet to play a minute in the NBA this season, but that hasn’t stopped him from earning a big-time contract extension.

Bryant reupped with the Lakers Monday morning for two years and $48.5 million.

Wouldn’t it maybe be prudent for Los Angeles to actually wait and see how the 35-year-old, coming off a ruptured Achilles tendon, plays in his 18th (!!) season in the league? I guess he’s earned some cachet. Four titles will do that for you.

Bryant will be the highest paid player in the league the next two seasons — he already was and is taking a pay cut, in fact — outpacing Knicks forward/bench warmer Amar’e Stoudemire ($23 million in 2014-15) and Nets guard/chucker Joe Johnson ($24.8 million in 2015-16).

No, seriously, those are the second- and third-highest paid players in the NBA. Though, to be fair, when you subtract all the medical expenses from Stoudemire’s salary he’s basically living on day-old bagels and Ramen.

When you look at the contract extension that way, it’s a wonder they didn’t come to Bryant literally mid-surgery on his Achilles for a signature.

Anyway, Bryant’s foray into social media has given us a nice look at what it’s like to sign a professional NBA contract for a lot a lot of money.

So basically, it involves some frappuccinos, some rich old white dudes and lots of magazines with your face on it. Good to know.

Kobe really needs to work on that signature. The dude must sign 100 things a day and that’s his signature? Also, is Mitch Kupchak trying to copy Jack Lew with his signature?
