Mike Goodson expects to return to Jets next season

Mike Goodson wants to be back with the Jets, even if multiple factors seem to be working against him.

Goodson, who was arrested this offseason on drug and weapons charges, missed the first four games of the season due to a league-mandated suspension stemming from that arrest and the final 10 games due to a season-ending knee injury. But Goodson said he expects to return to the Jets despite the injury and pending court case.

“Every conversation that I’ve had with [general manager John Idzik], I feel that,” Goodson told Metro. “It’s been that way since Day 1.”

The plan this offseason for Goodson, who continues to rehab from his ACL and MCL injury, is to put in his work at the team’s facility. He will meet with the team’s medical staff on Monday and lean on them for his offseason plan.

In two games, Goodson had just seven carries for 61 yards but has shown promise out of the backfield as a change of pace. In addition, he can add a dimension to a special teams unit that has lacked a big-name kick returner since Joe McKnight was cut in training camp.

“It was real frustrating. Starting off those two games, we talked about working me in slow, and I was working in slow and making plays,” Goodson said. “I felt myself coming along and then the injury. I don’t know, it is discouraging and encouraging. I know what I can do. I’m going to rehab my knee. It is feeling stronger and stronger every day. [I am] going to come back next year and be ready.”

So while the Jets have indicated to Goodson he is part of their plans next year, he said the feeling is mutual.

“Definitely, I’m here, I’m a Jet,” Goodson said. “Most definitely a Jet.”
