Flyers keep up great play, even in Russia
Before the Olympic break, the Flyers were playing some of their best hockey of the year.
And now, as the men’s competition prepares for the quarterfinals Tuesday, it is clear that several Flyers are playing just as well for their respective countries in Sochi.
Michael Raffl headlines the Flyers in the Winter Games, the rookie winger scored what proved to be the game-winning goal for Austria in Sunday’s 3-1 win over Norway. It was the first goal of Raffl’s Olympic career.
Mark Streit’s Switzerland squad has played in three 1-0 decisions, two of them wins.
Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen has not compiled any points this Olympics, but Finland is sitting pretty with a No. 4 seed and first round bye.
Jakub Voracek has an Olympic goal for the Czech Republic, the game-winner in a 4-2 win over Latvia Friday.
And finally, Flyers defenseman Andrej Meszaros played 20:29 minutes on defense for Slovakia in a 1-0 loss to Russia Sunday.
