A 14-year-old who was shot in the back on Tuesday night remains in critical condition as police search for the shooter.
The victim was shot around 9:25 p.m. on Simpson Street, but police found him at 60th and Vine streets. Officials believe he was dumped there after being shot, 6ABC has reported.
“Based on ballistic evidence, we know at least eight shots were fired from a semi-automatic weapon. We found eight spent shell casings on the highway in the 200 block of North Simpson Street,” Chief Inspector Scott Small said to CBS3.
The victims’ friends found him lying on the sidewalk as they were walking nearby, 6ABC added. Police were determining if the victim was an intended target or hit by a stray bullet.
He had been shot once in the back and was taken to Presbyterian Hospital, according to CBS3.
On Wednesday morning, fliers asking residents to report suspicious activity were placed on neighbors’ doors.
Police told 6ABC that there have been no arrests related to the shooting, and there is not yet a clear motive.
