It’s Tom Menino’s last go-round. His term as Boston’s mumbing, stumbling yet-all-too-lovable Mayor expires in a couple of months and there will be no more Super Bowls, NBA Finals or Stanley Cup Finals to talk about during the next few weeks.

But there is the World Series, which begins in Boston on Wednesday. Menino used his World Series press conference Tuesday to deliver one final verbal sports error, a practice he has made famous ever since “Varitek kicked it through the uprights” and the Patriots won the Super Bowl back in February of 2002 (Click here for Menino-isms).

Tuesday, he urged Red Sox fans to be responsible during the next few weeks as the team tries to bring the “World Series Cup” back to Boston.

There is, of course, no “World Series Cup” in baseball as we believe he was making reference to the Commissioner’s Trophy, which is anything but a cup. It’s a thing with pointy flags on it, a hideous trophy, yes – but certainly not a cup.

“KJ and Hondo” aren’t walking through that door for the Celtics. “Wes Wekler” is in Denver, Rob “Grabowski” is always banged up and Vince “Wil-Cock” is out for the season for the Patriots. But all is good in Red Sox-land. So much so that we need to recite one last Menino-BoSox good luck charm:

“Much like a cookie, I pwedict the Yankee dynasty to cwumble. And the wesults will be delicious, for all Red Sox … fans.”
