We’re not entirely sure why, but apparently Drake is a huge Kentucky basketball fan. So there he was, in the team’s locker room, after the school’s Final Four victory over Wisconsin Saturday night.

Drake is from Toronto, so we’re not sure exactly how he became a Wildcats fan, but according to him, he’s “always” been a Kentucky fan. How do we know? Matt Porter of the Palm Beach Post asked him that very question as he left the locker room Saturday night.

While he was teased for being a bandwagon fan by some, he has been a documented fan for at least four years. He apparently has a relationship with head coach John Calipari, who encouraged the child actor to get his GED. He’s served as a celebrity head coach for Kentucky alumni games in the past as well.

Drake said he spoke to the team in Calipari’s first season in Kentucky — when the team had stars John Wall, Eric Bledsoe and DeMarcus Cousins — and followed them throughout the season. They ended up losing in the Elite 8. Here’s video of him discussing his fandom after the Sweet 16 win in 2010:

It doesn’t sound like there’s any rivalry between him and UK superfan Ashley Judd, a Kentucky native.

You know Calipari will do anything to butter up recruits, so having a music superstar hang out in the locker room probably doesn’t hurt.
