Pickleball to take over NYC: Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, Queens to host 2024 New York City Open in May

The mecca of American tennis, the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, is opening its doors to one of the hottest sports in the country.

The top pickleball players around the country will descend upon Queens from May 21-26 for the 2024 Zimmer Biomet APP New York City Open to compete for $150,000. The competition first began in Flushing Meadows last year.

Elite players and open entries can compete for the prize. Those interested in registering can visit theapp.global from now until May 12. The New York City Open is the sixth of 12 Association of Pickleball Players (APP) Tour events this season,

CBS and FS1 will broadcast the six days of pickleball action where the legendary Arthur Ashe Stadium will serve as the competition’s backdrop. CBS Sports Network will air matches from 6 to 8 p.m. ET on Friday, May 24, with additional coverage on FS1 from 8 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 25 and from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 26.

The Association of Pickleball Players (APP) provides opportunities for pickleball players of all ages and skill levels to compete in world-class pickleball events for the chance to win prize money and be featured on national television.

Launching in 2019,  the APP is the world’s first pro and amateur pickleball tour sanctioned by USA Pickleball. It became the first pickleball organization ever to establish an official headquarters and training center with The Fort in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
