2014 NBA Mock Draft (new, updated June 9 version)

1. Cleveland Cavaliers: Joel Embiid, C, Kansas – ESPN.com had a headline on its main page over the weekend that read: “Who will go No. 1? Wiggins or Parker.” Click prostitutes – the lot of ’em.

2. Milwaukee Bucks: Andrew Wiggins, SF , Kansas – A report from 94WIP out of Philly says that the Sixers will do just about anything to get Wiggins. For now, we’ll say it’s a Sam Hinkie smokescreen, but check in next week.

3. Philadelphia 76ers: Jabari Parker, SF, Duke – It seems as though there will be Parker/Wiggins flip-flopping from now until June 26.

4. Orlando Magic: Dante Exum, PG, Australia – The cry for an Exum/Oladipo backcourt is growing louder by the day.

5. Utah Jazz: Noah Vonleh, PF, Indiana – Jazz executive Walt Perrin told the Salt Lake Tribune this past week that the organization “sees Derrick Favors as more of a center than a power forward,” opening the door for Vonleh at the 4.

6. Boston Celtics: Aaron Gordon, PF, Arizona – Not to say we told ya so, but … SI.com reported after our mock last week that Danny Ainge is “locked-in” on Gordon.

7. Los Angeles Lakers: Marcus Smart, PG, Oklahoma State – Smart would get the ball to Kobe in the right spots immediately. And since Kobe calls all the shots in LA these days, Smart will be a Laker.

8. Sacramento Kings: Doug McDermott, PF, Creighton – Last week we said Julius Randle has “slip potential.” If McDermott’s name is called before Randle’s, that label will certainly become official.

9. Charlotte Hornets: Julius Randle, PF, Kentucky – If Randle does fall here, some team will call Michael Jordan … and Michael Jordan will trade the pick away … because he already has Al Jefferson at the 4 … and that would be the smart thing to do … right, Mike? That would be smart. Right? … Mike?

10. Philadelphia 76ers: Dario Saric, F, Croatia – The Sixers are going to be fun to watch next season, we’re sure of it. Saric is great in transition. Make it happen, Hinkie.

11. Denver Nuggets: Gary Harris, SG, Michigan State – Harris has a great stroke and, like most NBA teams, Denver could use a solid 2.

12. Orlando Magic: T.J. Warren, SF, North Carolina State – Warren can score with the best of ’em as he put up 24.9 ppg with the Wolfpack last season.

13. Minnesota Timberwolves: James Young, SG, Kentucky – No way Flip Saunders believes Corey Brewer can put up 51 points with regularity. Then again, Flip Saunders seemingly doesn’t believe Kevin Love will be playing basketball in any place other than Minnesota in a year.

14. Phoenix Suns: Adreian Payne, PF, Michigan State – The Suns worked out Payne and Washington guard C.J. Wilcox last Friday. For once, maybe that means something.

15. Atlanta Hawks: Clint Capela, PF, Switzerland – The Knicks really wanted Jeff Teague last year, but Atlanta held on to him and the guess is that they really, truly like him for the longterm. Think the Hawks go big here despite there being plenty of point guards available.

16. Chicago Bulls: Nik Stauskas, SG/SF, Michigan – The Bulls can’t get Kyle Korver back, so why not try to strike gold with Stauskas – the kid with the golden stroke?

17. Boston Celtics: Zach LaVine, PG/SG, UCLA – Rumors say Ainge has been talking to Bill Walton lately, trying to have him sell Boston on certain UCLA alums. Maybe LaVine’s name pops up in conversation.

18. Phoenix Suns: Rodney Hood, SF, Duke – The fear is that Hood doesn’t have an NBA-level body.

19. Chicago Bulls: Cleanthony Early, SF/PF, Wichita State – The Bulls need to stock up on potential small forwards.

20. Toronto Raptors: Tyler Ennis, PG, Syracuse – Yes, Ennis is Canadian.

21. Oklahoma City Thunder: Shabazz Napier, PG, UConn – Kevin Durant isn’t going to get his buddy Kevin Ollie to coach OKC anytime soon, so he’ll grab the next best thing from the NCAA champs.

22. Memphis Grizzlies: Kyle Anderson, SF, UCLA – Anderson fills up the stat sheet in a hurry and is obviously more of an offensive threat than Tony Allen.

23. Utah Jazz: Jusuf Nurkic, C, Bosnia – The Jazz need help just about everywhere.

24. Charlotte Hornets: C.J. Wilcox, SG, Washington – The old Michael Jordan trick of picking upper-classmen who peaked in college.

25. Houston Rockets: Jerami Grant, SF, Syracuse – Grant’s NBADraft.net comparison is Thaddeus Young. Flattery.

26. Miami Heat: Elfrid Payton, PG, Louisiana Lafayette – Elfrid vs. Mario has “rivalry” written all over it.

27. Phoenix Suns: Jordan Adams, SG, UCLA – Given the amount of picks and given the amount of UCLA players that are scheduled to go in the first round, Sean McDonough’s brother should have some fun with this thing. All Bruins, all the time.

28. Los Angeles Clippers: Bogdan Bogdanovic, SG, Serbia – Listening to Adam Silver mispronounce these names won’t be nearly as funny as when David Stern used to do it. Couldn’t we just loan Stern every year from here on out until he’s no longer with us? Every draft needs a great heel, and it’s best when said heel is in charge. Silver will get far too many cheers at this thing.

29. Oklahoma City Thunder: Patric Young, PF/C, Florida – Put it this way: Young could do hammer curls with Rodney Hood.

30. San Antonio Spurs: P.J. Hairston, SG, North Carolina – Who knows what this roster will look like come October?
