Sorry, the Phillies’ season opener is sold out. However, if you were lucky enough to score tickets to Friday’s game, here are a few things to be aware of, right after you pump that turnstile:
1 New faces in old places. Female fans frequently let their eyes wander to right field and second base, hoping that Jayson Werth and Chase Utley would send a loving gaze back their way. But, with both men gone — Werth in D.C.; Utley on DL — it’s time to get to know Ben Francisco and Wilson Valdez. (If they don’t do it for you, look at irresistible Chooch behind home plate).
2 Food for thought. New eats dot Citizens Bank Park this year, including the new “Philly Fresh” stand (behind Section 139) for the health-conscious, the return of Tastykakes for those not counting calories and a panini stand, complete with Cuban sandwiches (behind Section 134).
3 Screen grab. The newest and biggest addition is the Sony HD Jumbotron hovering under the Phillies’ sign in left field. It’s among the largest in the world, measuring 76 feet high and 97 feet wide. It’s a $10 million upgrade — money well spent over keeping that crybaby Werth, right?
