Ray Allen is officially the NBA’s all-time king of 3-pointers.

Ray Allen is officially the NBA’s all-time king of 3-pointers.

The Celtics shooting star tied and broke Reggie Miller’s career trey record against the Lakers on Thursday night. He passed the milestone early, hitting his record 2,561st ‘3’ from a wide-open spot on the right shoulder with 1:48 left in the first quarter.

The referees did not stop the game immediately for a celebration, though the Garden crowd saluted Allen with a lengthy ovation. The achievement was marked in a brief ceremony after the first quarter, highlighted by an embrace between Allen and Miller, who was in attendance as a TNT color commentator.

Allen, who entered the league with Milwaukee in 1996-97, has led the league in 3-pointers three times. He needed 1,074 games to break the record.
