Philadelphia defenseman Andrej Meszaros was traded from the Flyers to the Bruins just prior to the 3 p.m. NHL trade deadline Wednesday in exchange for a third round draft pick, according to multiple reports.
Meszaros was a teammate of Bruins captain Zdeno Chara for Team Slovakia in the Sochi Olympics and Philly.com reported earlier this month that the B’s leader gave Boston GM Peter Chiarelli a nudge in the direction of landing the 6-foot-2, 223-pound Meszaros. Meszaros was likely deemed expendable by Philadelphia after the Flyers acquired Islanders defenseman Andrew MacDonald Wednesday.
The 28-year-old Meszaros recorded five goals, 12 assists and was a plus-1 this season with the Flyers.
Boston has sought another defenseman since Dennis Seidenberg tore his right MCL and ACL in late December.
