Bruins fan reaction: Dear Maple Leafs fans, it’s over

So … that’s it? That’s what nine years of waiting gets you, Toronto?

You guys couldn’t even make this series interesting, eh?

Man, expectations haven’t been lost so quickly since… the 2013 Blue Jays took the field.

But such is life. The Bruins took a 3-1 series advantage Wednesday night after not one, but two wins north of the border, and tonight in Boston they should put the Maple Leafs to rest for another nine years.

As much as we’d like to say we’re surprised over here in Boston, we’re not. Sure, the B’s limped into the postseason, but they fell right into the outstretched arms of a Leafs team that just couldn’t wait to help them advance to the next round.

So as much as Leafs fans were looking forward to what they thought would be a good matchup against Boston, B’s fans couldn’t be bothered.

“Toronto isn’t good enough to pose as a serious rival,” Andy Shifres, 25, of Tyngsboro, Mass. said. “They’re definitely behind both Montreal, Vancouver and Ottawa. They’re barely ahead of Winnipeg.”

Ouch. It’s nothing personal, Toronto. In fact, it couldn’t be less personal.

“As far as the Maple Leafs go, I still have little hatred towards them,” said Will Hurley, 25, of Somerville, MA. “How can you hate a team that you have dominated over the last half decade? How can you hate a team that doesn’t provide a genuine threat? And most importantly, how could you hate their fans? Hats off to the Toronto fans for sticking by their piss-poor performing team.”

We just hope the B’s are ready for the second round after going into cruise-control this series.

“I will say I was happy the Bruins didn’t have to play a tough opponent [in the first round] like Washington last year or Montreal the year before,” said Max Jacobs, 22, of Lowell, Mass.
