Sunday morning comic strips in the newspaper used to make me laugh. You just really could tell that the artists brought their “A-games” to Sunday morning.

Then I became as cynical as a 7-year-old could be, grading, judging, comparing the cartoons against each other.

“Garfield, you’re cool.”

“Dilbert, you’re trash.”

And don’t even get me started on The Family Circus.

I hadn’t thought about the Sunday “Funnies” in a while, until this week, when the San Diego Union-Tribune published a cartoon of new Chargers linebacker Manti Te’o walking along with the beach with his arm around an imaginary girlfriend. Then, lo and behold, today we get a cartoon of new Jets quarterback Geno Smith getting ready to hang himself after being picked over at last weekend’s NFL Draft before a fat Jets fan (maybe it’s supposed to be Rex Ryan?) barges into the room and declares “Wait, Geno!,” “How’d you like to be a NY Jet?” … that’s when Geno kicks the stool out from under his legs and finishes the job (CLICK HERE FOR THE LINK).

Now, suicide is not funny at all. We all understand that. And does this cross the line? Well, yeah, probably. But the artist, Dave Rappoccio, is simply going for shock value here. He’s just giving another roundhouse right to the sports world’s favorite punching bag, the Jets.

Jets fans have heard and seen it all, too, and I’m guessing that the majority of them would privately laugh at something like this before they would go screaming to the PC police. So, Dave Rappoccio, you’re cool with me. Just know that the comic strip world is a cut-throat one. One week you’ll have 7-year-olds bowing down to you, the next week you’ll be as out of date as Beetle Bailey and his Friends. Keep it fresh.

Strange bedfellows
One of my favorite hobbies is watching people you could never picture interact, actually interact. That’s why, for some reason, Psy vs. Tommy Lasorda has got to be the funniest “interaction” of the year so far. Just two guys with absolutely nothing in common (for those of you unaware of LA Dodgers history, Lasorda is the un-amused old man on the left that doesn’t give even a hint of a smile through this whole ordeal):

I would also venture to guess that Psy would not have danced so close to Lasorda if he had ever heard this epic Tommy rant below (NSFW):
