Celtics win 5th straight, beat Hawks in OT

Jeff Green is now thriving for the Green. Jeff Green is now thriving for the Green.

The Celtics (34-27) and Hawks (34-27) needed an extra session to settle their Friday night battle at TD Garden and the C’s were ultimately able to continue their winning ways, beating Atlanta, 107-102, in overtime.

Paul Pierce and Jason Terry provided the Celtics with a significant scoring punch with Pierce netting 27 points and Terry claiming 19.

Earlier in the day, Yahoo! Sports reported that Pierce could have been dealt to Dallas at the NBA trade deadline with Atlanta’s Josh Smith heading to Boston in a three-way deal that was killed well-before it got serious. Smith was in the zone for the Hawks Friday night, scoring a team-high 32 points.

What they’ll be saying: Jeff Green is finally being accepted by the majority of Boston fans. Friday night he had the highlight of the game with a baseline slam as well as a key steal down the stretch. Green finished with 12 points off the bench for the Green. The C’s won their fifth straight game and are climbing up the Eastern Conference standings. After Friday’s win, they were tied with the Hawks for the sixth seed and are just a half game behind fifth-seeded Chicago.
