The NBA is the only major North American pro sports league to have never had a team rattle off four straight wins following an 0-3 deficit.

The Celtics, arguably the most storied franchise in David Stern’s league, are two wins away from adding to their pride-filled legacy. With a win Friday at TD Garden and a victory Sunday at Madison Square Garden, the Celtics could very well make the New York Knicks the most hilarious sports punchline of 2013.

While most Celtics and Knicks players maintained that their respective teams must focus solely on basketball in the next game, or possibly two games, most fans have turned their attention to a couple of the off-court, soap opera storylines that have crept into the series.

Carmelo Anthony’s wife, LaLa, responded via Instagram to those who insinuated that Celtics reserve guard Jordan Crawford was making reference to her in a postgame yap-fest that occurred moments after the final horn sounded Wednesday at MSG.

Her message read, “STONG WOMEN only intimidate weak men” with a caption that read, “Try again. You on the bench for a reason.”

Both the Knicks and Celtics talked about New York wearing black clothes prior to Game 5 as well. The fashion statement was meant to mimic a Celtics funeral.

“I’m a little upset about that and I’ve addressed that,” Knicks head coach Mike Woodson said Thursday. “Things like that have just got to be, just kept outside the game and just concentrate on playing basketball.”
Paul Pierce chuckled when asked about the Knicks’ tactics.

“I guess I didn’t get the memo. I guess it wasn’t the day,” Pierce told WEEI.com following Wednesday’s game.
