Cole Hamels pitched a complete game as the Phillies beat the Braves in Atlanta, 5-1, Monday night, giving manager Charlie Manuel his 1,000th career win as a manager.
The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Phillies (53-65). The team had lost 11 straight games on the road.
It was just the Braves' second loss in their last 17 games.
Hamels, who improved his record to 5-13, struck out nine and allowed six hits over his nine innings.
Rookie third baseman Cody Asche was 2-for-4 on the night, including a three-run home run. It was his second home run since being called up from the minors.
A fan died after falling about 60 feet from the upper deck at Turner Field during the game.
