The Charlotte Hornets are back in town … or at least about to be.

With the NBA’s New Orleans franchise now named the “Pelicans,” the Charlotte Bobcats have begun the process of changing their name to the “Charlotte Hornets.” The Hornets were in Charlotte from 1988 to 2002, when then-owner George Shinn moved the team to New Orleans.

NBA deputy commissioner Adam Silver told Bobcats season ticket holders this year that such a change would take at least 18 months to implement, according to the Charlotte Observer.

The Bobcats were founded in 2004. Time Warner Cable Arena has been the home of the Bobcats since October 2005. The Charlotte Coliseum housed the Hornets from 1988-2002 and the Bobcats from 2004-05 before being demolished via implosion in 2007.
