Playing the Field: Chris Rock airballs a layup on National TV

Let’s get this out of the way: I love Chris Rock. Think he’s the greatest stand-up comedian of all-time, actually. At his peak (the 2004 HBO special, ‘Never Scared’), Rock was untouchable. So I have the utmost respect for Chris Rock. But that respect was tested big-time Tuesday night.

Sometimes you just gotta know when to give up a sport … or all sports for that matter, for fear of further humiliation. For instance, when I whiffed twice ina row on the fairway on Hole 14on the golf course two years ago, I instantly knew my golf days were finished. Mechanics in sports are tricky to fix, especially if you’re over the age of 25. So if you’re Chris Rock on the basketball court or Tim Tebow on the football field, you just gotta know when it’s time to call it quits or else you’re gonna get the ‘Elaine Benes dancing’ treatment from your friends (behind your back, of course)for the rest of your life.

The above video shows Rock promoting his new money-grab film, Grown Ups 2, with Adam Sandler on Jimmy Kimmel Live! prior to Game 3 of the NBA Finals. What Rock does here with the basketball is nearly impossible to do. To call it an airball would be a disservice to airballs everywhere.
