Darrelle Revis out for year with torn ACL

The Jets got plenty of breaks that went their way on Sunday in their 23-20 overtime win at Miami. The one that didn’t go their way wasn’t a break, but a tear.

Head coach Rex Ryan confirmed what was feared at his noon press conference Monday. Cornerback Darrelle Revis tore his ACL during the third quarter of yesterday’s game against the Dolphins. He will need to undergo surgery

“Everybody has to step up,” Ryan said. “And that’s it.”

Revis is a four-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro, earning the honor each of the last three seasons. He is widely regarded as the best cornerback in the NFL.

The Jets used former first-round pick Kyle Wilson in place of Revis yesterday. Wilson has been the nickel corner and filled in admirably for Revis last week when he missed the Steelers game due to a concussion. Wilson struggled against the Dolphins though, committing a crucial pass interference on the Dolphins’ final drive of regulation when they tied the game at 20-20.

“We have a history of stepping up, but I’ve also had some history of losing corners. In Baltimore I lost three or four corners in one year, but we need to step it up,” Ryan said. “Maybe we play some opponents differently; there’s different ways to skin a cat.”
